Leading bible study small group7/27/2023 ![]() Participants in small groups (from affinity groups to covenant groups) should have at least some engagement with God’s Word for guidance and discernment. Trained facilitators make the most of teachable moments and rely on curricula only as a means for meaningful conversation. This is one of myriad reasons why small-group facilitators should be trained. I’ll repeat that sentence for emphasis: It is more important to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead than to complete the lesson plan. As Jeffrey Arnold notes in his book, The Big Book of Small Groups, “Don’t let a printed study hinder small-group creativity.” It is more important to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead than to complete the lesson plan. ![]() Too often, curricula can get in the way of a fruitful discussion. In whatever form it looks like, small groups should make time to engage God’s Word.īible study curricula can be a crutch for the group and for the church. For other groups, care or accountability might be the predominant features of their time together. For some groups, Bible study might take up most of the group’s time. Churches should offer a variety of small groups, and how the Scriptures should be engaged will and should vary according to the type of group. Certainly, there are many other practices and activities that small groups can and should participate in beyond exclusively studying the Bible. Bible studyįor some, a small group is almost equivalent to Bible study. Having accountability for living our faith helps us as individuals and collectively to become the people of God. I think this understanding of prayer is what Paul might have had in mind in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “pray without ceasing.” More than merely perfunctory words either at the beginning and/or end of the small-group time, prayer should be a time when we bring all of who we are before God’s throne, so that God might work in and through us. We don’t invoke God’s presence when we pray as much as we attune ourselves to the God who is present with us. We can have a posture or attitude of prayer in various physical postures, for very brief or extended periods of time, in a church building or outside. Secondly, it properly locates us - in the presence of God. For one, there is nothing about talking or even listening. Conversely, my favorite definition of prayer is “intentionally being in the presence of God.” I favor this definition or description of prayer for a few reasons. Perhaps this is in part due to the way many understand how prayer “works.” Most people seem to think of prayer as words we say to God. Unfortunately, prayer can become perfunctory to a small group meeting instead of the source of encountering God. The two most obvious elements of a small group are the spiritual practices of prayer and reading scripture. What are the essential elements of a fruitful small group? Scott Hughes names and explains six elements that characterize effective small groups - prayer and scripture, Bible study, accountability, nurture and care, mission, and covenant. Crystal security guard at u.s. steel7/27/2023 ![]() In 1907, 362 coal miners were killed at Monongah, W. The Progressive Era and the growth of mass circulation newspapers and national magazines helped forge a national movement for workers' safety and health. State with strong safety and health laws tended to lose industry to those with less stringent ones, which made States competitive and limited their legislative efforts. Inspectors, who were often political appointees, were not always given the legal right to enter workplaces. Many legislatures failed to provide adequate funds for enforcement. The laws had to be amended often to cover new hazards. ![]() There were too many holes in the piecemeal system and numerous hazards were left uncontrolled. The labyrinth of State job safety and health legislation covered a wide range of workplace hazards but was badly flawed. By 1890, nine States provided for factory inspectors, 13 required machine guarding, and 21 made limited provision for health hazards. 2 Its passage prompted a flurry of State factory acts. ![]() It required guarding of belts, shafts, and gears, protection on elevators, and adequate fire exits. In 1870, the Massachusetts Bureau of Statistics of Labor urged legislation to deal with "the peril to health from lack of ventilation." In 1877, Massachusetts passed the Nation's first factory inspection law. ![]() These tragedies and the industrial accident statistics that State labor bureaus collected, spurred social reformers and the budding labor movement to call for State factory safety and health laws. The Massachusetts report of 1872 described some particularly grisly accidents. The reports of State labor bureaus in the 1870's and 1880's were full of tragedies that too often struck the unwary or the unlucky. In the factories that sprang up after the Civil War, chemicals, dusts, dangerous machines, and a confusing jumble of belts, pulleys, and gears confronted inexperienced, often very young workers. However, the roots of government regulation of workplace hazards date back to the late 19th century. 1 This act was the result of a hard fought legislative battle which began in 1968 when President Lyndon Johnson unsuccessfully sought a similar measure. On December 29, 1970, President Richard Nixon signed into law the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act, which gave the Federal Government the authority to set and enforce safety and health standards for most of the country's workers. Three decades ago Congress enacted the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to help protect the Nation's workers on the job, following a 3-year struggle. Rita garcia fox news nude7/27/2023 ![]() Norma Jeane Baker with her mother, Gladys Leaming also claims that Volga was also an alcoholic – a condition referred to by the family as her ‘illness’. It is possible, Leaming suggests, that these were efforts on Volga’s part to protect Rita. Volga would often accompany Margarita on excursions to Mexico, leaving her sons unsupervised. She described Margarita as very timid, and recalled that she slept with her mother, while Eduardo and the boys had their own bedrooms. While Eduardo’s show-business peers found him charming, Parkin thought of him as ‘a petty little tyrant’. Leaming also interviewed Loretta Parkin, who was a neighbour of the Cansinos as a child. And the allegations have never been directly challenged. However, it seems unlikely that Welles invented such a shocking claim outright – especially as he had remained fond of Rita long after their divorce, and had no axe to grind. Leaming does not quote Welles directly, and her book was published shortly after both Welles and Rita died. Sceptics have pointed out that Welles was a raconteur, who tended to exaggerate. Her second husband, Orson Welles, is reported to have told Leaming that Rita was repeatedly abused by her father, Eduardo. In her 1989 biography, If This Is Happiness, Barbara Leaming claimed that Margarita was a victim of incest. I just don’t think it’s very good to have to learn it so young.’ ‘It was a family tradition but the reason I had to do it professionally was that we were broke…I learned a certain kind of discipline. ‘Honey, they had me dancing as soon as they could get me on my feet,’ Rita told author John Kobal in 1973. Her parents would lock her in the dressing room while they socialised. As she was underage and therefore prohibited from working in venues that sold alcohol, the duo performed mainly on offshore gambling boats and in Mexican nightclubs. In 1927, the Cansinos moved to Hollywood, where Eduardo established a dance studio.Īt thirteen, Margarita left school and replaced Elisa as her father’s dancing partner. Her first public performance soon followed. But by the age of four, Margarita was having daily lessons at Carnegie Hall. and Vernon, neither of whom showed any flair for the family trade. ![]() She went on to have two more sons, Eduardo Jr. Eduardo was newly married to Volga Haworth, a teenage showgirl from a respectable Irish-American family, who had run away from home in Washington to join Ziegfeld’s Follies.Īfter Margarita’s birth, Volga gave up her career. With his sister Elisa as partner, they became one of Broadway’s most popular acts. Her father, Eduardo, had emigrated from Spain five years before, as one half of The Dancing Cansinos. Margarita Carmen Cansino was born in Brooklyn in 1918. ![]() In 1946, the image was used to decorate the test bomb exploded on Bikini Atoll, nicknamed ‘Gilda’ after Hayworth’s latest movie. Until a bathing suit-clad Betty Grable showed off her ‘million dollar legs’, Landry’s photo made Rita the most popular pin-up among American troops. Gazing boldly at the camera, Hayworth seemed to promise more than the artful illusion of glamour. And the white silk negligee that she wore may have been borrowed from Columbia’s wardrobe department. Here, Landry depicted a far more seductive Rita, either relaxing in her own bedroom as the caption claimed, or on a studio prop bed. But this delightfully natural image made less impact than another picture inside the magazine. She was pictured in a white bikini, grinning as photographer Bob Landry caught her eating lunch on a Los Angeles beach. In August 1941 – less than four months before the bombing of Pearl Harbour plunged America into World War II – Rita Hayworth graced the cover of Life magazine. ![]() Rita Hayworth, photographed by Bob Landry (1941) Mac reinstall anaconda7/27/2023 ![]() With Anaconda 2019.07’s newer Anaconda metapackage, conda update -all will make the metapackage go to the custom version in order to update other specs.Ĭonda update -all will only update the selected environment. conda update -all may not be able to make everything the latest versions because you may have conflicting constraints in your environment.
